Human remains were found in a wooded area in Elliot Lake last Sunday.

A resident made the discovery in an area where there’s walking and all-terrain-vehicle trails, said Const. Phil Young in an email to The Sault Star.

How long the remains were there is unknown.

Also not known is if foul play is a factor in the person’s death and if the remains could be those of James (Jimmy) Lee Monty, an Elliot Lake man missing since last fall.

The area is blocked off while Ontario Provincial Police and Office of the Chief Coroner-Ontario Forensic Pathology Service do an investigation, a release says.
