Charges have been laid against a Manitoulin Island resident who was caught shortly after a home was broken into.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday, officers from Manitoulin OPP responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence in Mindemoya.

The OPP was assisted by members of the United Chiefs and Council of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police.

“Officers arrested the suspect on Highway 551 in possession of stolen property,” the OPP said in a release. “Investigation revealed that the suspect had broken into a second residence nearby.”

Kimel Corbiere, 32, from Mindemoya, has been charged with two counts of break and enter, failing to comply with a probation order and drug possession.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at Bail Court in Gore Bay on Nov. 18.

The Manitoulin OPP credited Mindemoya Neighbourhood Watch with helping to effect the arrest.
