Central Alberta Youth Unlimited (CAYU) officially has a new executive director.

Jerel Peters will be taking over the role from Jake Schellenberg effective Oct. 1, 2018.

“Jerel and his family have been part of the CAYU family for the past 15 years in different ministry and leadership roles,” said a CAYU release issued Friday. “Jerel’s heart for family, mentorship, community and progressive leadership makes him a great fit for the position. Jerel enters this position with the full support of the entire staff and board of CAYU.”

Schellenberg, meanwhile, is moving on from the role to take over as the director of chapter development for the Youth for Christ/YFC National Team. He was the executive director for CAYU for the past 16 years.

“Jake has brought substantial growth and mentorship to all areas of CAYU and we at CAYU have benefitted greatly under his leadership. Jake has consistently led this organization with humility, kindness and great vision,” said the release.

“We will no doubt continue to reap the benefits of Jake’s leadership for years to come. We will miss him and the Schellenberg family greatly. We wish both Jake and Jerel all the best as they enter this new chapter of their lives.”

CAYU aims to bring the hope of Jesus to youth through the mentoring of relationships to bring hope and wholeness to all youth. It exists in Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Rimbey and Maskwacis.
