A 26 year-old  man was arrested by Blackfalds RCMP following a slow speed pursuit on the QE2 Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP attempted a traffic stop after spotting the man driving erratically on the highway at approximately 2:49 p.m., but when the driver failed to stop pursuit was declared.

The Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit was dispatched to assist, and the pursuit ended at 3:08 p.m. when the vehicle drove into the east ditch and got stuck on the south side of Hwy 12.

The male driver, unnamed by police as charges are pending and RCMP continue investigation, was taken into custody without further incident. Charges are related to his driving.

Police observed speeds of the vehicle on the highway to be 60-80 km/h. Traffic was delayed behind the police vehicles during the pursuit and the RCMP wish to thank the public for their patience during this incident, and consideration in giving officers a safe “pocket” to work in and manage the situation.
