G. I. Joe: Retaliation has plenty of action, creative fights, and explosions to satisfy the Joe fans out there. These fans need not travel far to see this film, as it is now playing right here in Lacombe at Lacombe City Cinemas.
When the President of the United States (Jonathan Pryce) orders the elite fighters, G. I. Joes to capture the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan, the Joes get into action led by their commander known as Duke (Channing Tatum). However, this mission turns into a disaster and most of the Joes are killed. Three Joes survive this mission, Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), Flint (DJ Cotrona), and Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), and they seek retaliation for the destruction of the Joes.
Meanwhile, Snack Eyes (Ray Park) tries to locate Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) in an attempt to learn the plans of the Cobra Commander.
I took all three of my sons to see this film and although they all liked it, my youngest son, Daniel, age 10, enjoyed this film the most, so this gives you a sense of the audience this film is geared to.
G. I. Joe: Retaliation was scheduled to be released on June 29, 2012, but the studio delayed the release until March 29, 2013, so that the film could be put into 3D format and to increase the role of Tatum, who had become more popular after the success of such films as 21 Jump Street and The Vow.
Knowing this, I was surprised how little of a role Tatum plays in this revised version of the film, which is unfortunate as some of the best scenes are with him and Johnson.
Near the end of the movie Bruce Willis, as General Joe, is brought into the film and this certainly increased the entertainment level of this movie.
Until next time, I will see you at the cinema.
