This year's Bentley Town and Country Ag Fair and Rodeo Aug. 5 to 8 is expected to be a hit with new activities for all ages including laser tag.
"There are so many different events and very few are for charge," said June Norvilla, Bentley Ag Society. "We try to make it entertaining for the community by constantly changing and trying to draw crowds."
New to the event put on by the Bentley and District Agricultural Society is all-ages laser tag at the Community Church gymnasium Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is also a cowboy-mounted shootout where people can witness riders on horseback shooting balloons through an obstacle course for a cash prize on Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Bentley arena. Both events are free.
"It's total family entertainment," said Norvilla.
This year's theme is a salute to Dick Damron — a Bentley born and raised country music star. The celebration will be geared at his more than 50 years of playing country music.
"He started his music career playing in our community hall," Norvilla laughed. "No one really expected him to become world-renown."
Norvilla said Damron will be the honorable parade Marshall.
Fireworks are scheduled for Aug. 7 around 10:15 p.m. just before the drive-in-movie.
All money raised from the event goes back into Central Alberta said Rick Wasik, member of the Bentley Ag Society and Rodeo committee. Money will be sent to organizations such as the Central Alberta Ronald McDonald House, the Bentley Minor Hockey Association, and various cancer funds.
