High value drug seizure in traffic stop

Blackfalds RCMP discovered high value drugs during a traffic stop on the QEII Hwy near Hwy 11 on Friday, Dec. 8.
Darryl Betts, 29, was arrested for possession of substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Following further investigation and search of both Betts and the vehicle he was driving, cocaine, methamphetamine, cash, cell phones and firearm worth over an estimated $80,000 were seized.
Betts was charged with the following offences:
• Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 5(2) – Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Criminal Code 354 – Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00
• Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
• Criminal Code 91(1) – Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Betts was released on $10,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court in January 2018.
