Remembrance Day ceremonies around the region
The Village of Alix held their Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
On Nov. 11, however, they’ll commemorate the occasion with the designation of the Alix Avenue of Heroes at 2 p.m. at the east Welcome to Alix sign.
The Alix Wagon Wheel Museum will also be open from 1- 5 p.m. for visitors to check out the service room.
Bentley School will hold a Remembrance Day Service on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 1:10 p.m. in the elementary gymnasium.
Members of the public are invited to attend.
Blackfalds church organizations will host the fifth annual Remembrance Day Service at the Abbey Centre on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
A brief ceremony will be held outdoors at the Cenotaph, but most of the service will be indoors. Those looking to attend are asked to arrive early as parking is limited.

Remembrance Day kicks off with laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph in Lest We Forget Park, and a community breakfast at the Lacombe Legion from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
The service itself begins at 10:45 a.m. at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. Afterwards, a light lunch will be served at the Lacombe Legion. A potluck community supper will also be held at 5:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring enough food for their own family plus one more.
The annual parade begins at ATCO Gas and heads to the the Ponoka Legion building. A ceremony will be held in the auditorium, with a potluck lunch following.
Two different ceremonies will be held, including one outdoors at the Cenotaph in Veterans’ Park at 49 Ave. and Ross Street downtown hosted by the Korean War Veterans’ Association.
The traditional Remembrance Day Ceremony normally held at the Red Deer Arena, meanwhile, will be held at CrossRoads Church as the arena is under construction. Both ceremonies commence at 10:30 a.m.
Remembrance Day Services at the Sylvan Lake Nexsource Centre will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a parade march.
Those looking to attend the service are asked to arrive around 10 a.m.
A Cenotaph Service will also be held in Memorial Park at 2 p.m.
