The provincial election is overshadowing Alberta's race to the senate but many candidates have been quietly campaigning.

The bus for PC senate candidate Scott Tannas rolled into Lacombe April 16.

PC senate candidate Doug Black, also made a stop in Lacombe April 12 in an effort to win votes.

Alberta is the only province that elects individuals to be considered for the senate by the federal government.

Candidates had until April 10 to file their nomination papers with Elections Alberta. Thirteen individuals will be on the ballot for the April 23 vote.

Black, along with Mike Shaikh and Scott Tannas were nominated by the PC's.

Three people, including Vitor Marciano, Raymnond Germain and Rob Gregory were nominated by the Wildrose party.

Elizabeth Johannson is the lone Evergreen Party candidate. Both the NDP and Liberals didn't nominate a candidate.

Independents include William Exelby, Len Bracko, Ian Urquhart, Paul Frank, David Fletcher and Perry Chahal.
